Why You Should Visit Berlin

Why should you visit Berlin?

Berlin is not only the capital of an incredible European country, it is a city teeming with history and one that doesn’t shy away from it’s darker days. With its 24 hour clubs and thriving underground scene, some people say Berlin may be a bit too cool.

I say it’s a city you should visit at least once in your life. One things for sure, you should take advantage of the incredible history on offer and learn as much as you can whilst you’re there.

Here is the experience I had in one of the most popular cities in Europe…

Day One

If you are wondering how easy it is to get around the city then the answer is; extremely. The city has a regular metro timetable, trams and buses. It is worth purchasing family tickets if you are travelling in a group of four or more and this dramatically cuts costs down.

 Where we stayed

Our apartment was located right next to the Holocaust Memorial and surrounded by Embassies, so was one of the safest neighbourhoods in the city. It was also a stones-throw from the Brandenburg Gate and within a few hundred feet of the metro, opposite was the famous hotel were Michael Jackson dangled his new born over the balcony.

We were lucky enough to have some incredible views of the memorial from above- not an angle many tourists get to see!

The Holocaust Memorial is a must do and photographs of it do not do it justice. You can wander through this and be so enthralled that the sounds of the city just fade away. Make sure you also visit the Museum which is located in the far corner of the memorial, it is one of the best Museums I have ever been to.

The only shame is the disrespect some people show when visiting the memorial; people standing on the blocks and jumping between them- please don’t be that person!

During the night there is low lighting throughout the Memorial so you are able to wander through it at any time of day. However, I believe the museum closes in the early evening so make sure to visit in the morning or afternoon so you are able to visit this also.

There is so much more to this amazing city. Fancy seeing more about what sights to see in Historical Berlin? Check out our second and third day below!
