Dubai is the perfect location for your dream luxury holiday. We visited the city last month in search of the best experiences, locations and hotels. During our time there we were lucky enough to spend a night at the Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel, located just a few minutes drive from Jebel Ali, The Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina.
The Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel is inspired by the travels of the famous Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta. It boasts a total of 8 bars and restaurants all offering different cuisines from around the world, there is also a resident nightclub and outdoor terraces to enjoy food and drink alfresco.

Why Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel?
The Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate offers so much for a first time visitor to Dubai and is easily accessed via taxi or the Dubai metro (5 minute walk). The hotel itself offers enough to keep guests entertained, whether you are dining in the hotel’s award winning restaurants, relaxing with a cocktail in hand at the wonderful Moroc Lounge or soaking up some rays at the rooftop pool you could quite easily spend a day or two recharging your batteries within the hotel grounds. You can also enjoy snacks and drinks in the main lounge (TIP: Try their refreshing and delicious Mint Ice Tea, perfect to help cool you down on those Warm Dubai afternoons!), enjoy a morning workout at the on site gym or indudge in a treatment at the Safar Spa or hair salon. It is also important to note that most of the staff we encountered were wonderful and extremely helpful.
You are also offered complimentary access to the private ‘Oceana beach club’ on the Palm Jumeriah, you are provided with free shuttle bus transfers directly from the hotel. Unfortunately the infinity pool was closed due to maintenance during our stay and there was some confusion when we arrived as to when the lazy river and private beach were closing. After being told we had time for a swim resulting in us changing into our beach attire we were disappointed to find that both beach service and the lazy river were both in fact closed, even after being given our towels etc from the staff. However, we did manage to get some snaps from the private beach and take in the beautiful view. We also had a light dinner at the on-site restaurant and enjoyed sipping on cocktails whilst watching the harbour light up across the water- a definite most do.
We are hoping that during our next visit to Dubai we will be able to experience the beach club and provide you with an updated review.
Our room was of an extremely high standard and we found it comfortable, clean and spacious. All of the rooms on offer at the hotel are modern and offer full tea and coffee making facilities- an absolute necessity for us at GIPD. Our room was a ‘Deluxe Room’ and had a distinct Moroccan feel, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere. We must point out that the beds were unbelievably comfortable and provided one of the best nights sleep we’ve had during our travels. There is also a convenient writing desk, safe, large interactive TV and complimentary (high quality) Wi-fi.
The bathroom was very spacious and offered a large bathtub alongside an amazing rainfall shower. It also featured a large glass window looking out into the bedroom, which was covered easily by a large screen.
The main lobby and grand hallway are completely breathtaking (above). There are 88 stunning lanterns, weighing 125kg each; why 88? The number 8 is lucky of course! In the hotel lift you will also notice that each floor leads you to a different country, all based around the travels of Ibn Battuta. The suites on offer at the hotel are also all individually themed, so if you fancy a surprise book a suite and see where you end up!
The hotel also offers fantastic events such as the weekly Friday brunch, which provides the perfect afternoon for families. The brunch offers a wide range of food, drink and entertainment, including live music and a bouncy castle to keep the children entertained.
Who should consider a stay at Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate?
This hotel is suitable for all types of holidays; Family, luxury, couples, group, honeymoon and business travellers. Families will find the easily accessible location, beach access, Friday brunch and rooftop pool all perfect for keeping children entertained, whilst the adults can still recharge their batteries. Couples, groups of friends and solo travellers can all enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and award winning restaurants and bars. The location and grounds of the hotel are also safe and convenient for solo female travellers.
At GIPD we would highly recommend spending an evening in the Moroc lounge, it’s the perfect way to unwind after a day of sight-seeing or activities. Watching the harbour light up across the water a the Oceana beach club was the highlight of our stay and the private beach offers incredible views and photo opportunities during sunset.
The Dubai Marina and Jebel Ali are only a 5-minute drive away so make sure to spend some time in both of these areas. The Mall of the Emirates, one of the highlights of our entire trip is only a 10 minute drive and Dubai International Airport is aound 35-minutes away via taxi transfer.
