Christmas Markets On A Budget

Our Christmas Plans: Christmas Markets On A Budget

The thing we look forward to the most at Christmas is the incredible markets. Not only do we love seeing what unique gifts they have on offer but the music, smells (Cinnamon and roasted chesnuts!) and mulled wine all add to the excitement. We always try to take a Christmas Market trip in December and so have taken some time to research the best ones on offer.

Here are some of the best Christmas markets you can enjoy this winter- without breaking into your Christmas savings!

This is by far my favourite city in Germany to enjoy Christmas. Offering four Christmas markets Cologne really knows how to get you into the festive spirit, my favourite by far is the Market by the Cathedral as having this incredible builidng as the backdrop just adds to the amazing atmosphere.

You can find great deals to Cologne with GermanWings and Easyjet.

Amsterdam is an incredible city and it’s great to experience Dutch traditions at Christmas (Ever heard of Sinterklaas?). Also famous for it’s floating flower markets, in the lead up to Christmas the winter versions offer Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes on offer. You can also find ice rinks and festive food stalls throughout the city and don’t miss the amazing Light Festival that runs from late November to Mid January. The city is expected to be extremely popular this winter after being featured in the huge release of TFIOS.

You can find out more about Amsterdam’s Christmas Markets on the iAmsterdam site. Easyjet offer amazing deals to Amsterdam, starting from £50 rtn flights in December.

One of Brussels most impressive Christmas Markets takes place in Grand-Place square (don’t miss the light show!). It’s easy to enjoy the city at this festive time, surrounded by chocolate and warming belguim beer! Known as ‘Winterwonders’ the city turns into a festive delight and you will find much more than just your usual markets and stalls. Be sure to take a day trip to Bruges, it’s a real life fairytale that comes to life at Christmas.

For the best deals check-out Eurostar, offering deals from £69 p.p return.

London is a wonderful city to visit during the festive period. From seeing the lights on the famous Regent and Oxford street to the incredible atmosphere inside of Harrods and Hamleys- there is so much to do in England’s capital. There are many markets on offer but this year a new free event featuring plenty of food and present stalls will take place in London’s Victoria Park. Winterville will turn Victoria park into a Christmas town, featurnig Ice Rinks, live entertainment, a Christmas Market and much more!

Bath (Girls In Polka Dot Favourite!)

Bath Christmas Market is one of the best festive experiences to have in the UK. Located between the famous Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, this market has so much to offer. There are nearly 200 wooden chalets offering handmade and unique gifts, clothing and delicious Christmas classics. The city itself is beautiful and it’s incredible landmarks offer a wonderful setting for this time of year. There is also a Victorian Carousel for the children (perfect for those Christmas memories) and a pop-up Ski bar to enjoy those winter tipples!

For those of you living in the North of the UK, Manchester also offers an incredible Christmas Market. Manchester was actually the first UK city to bring over continental markets over at Christmas time, so if you’re looking for originality in the UK then you’ve found it! It is also the biggest in the UK so you won’t struggle to find the perfect gifts here and there are plenty of things to eat and drink. The highlight is the 16m high windmill in Cathedral Gardens.

Over you you: Are you going to have any Christmas Markets this year? Do you have any you would recommend?

Travel often!
